Huge Turnout For Classes

Huge Turnout For Classes

by Sep 18, 2019Stories0 comments

Our hopes are high with the marvelous turnout we’ve had lately for foster parenting classes. The whole process begins with orientation classes. Altogether, 54 families attended our three orientations in the past month. Currently, an amazing 67 families are attending licensing classes at three locations across Tampa Bay. Of these we anticipate half will be licensed by year end.

We are so thankful to the Lord, our church partners, these families, and you our supporters that make this all possible. With a pipeline of potential foster families like this, it gives us hope that we are on pace to reach 300 Christian foster homes in Tampa Bay by 2023. With 151 current homes we have a long way to go. With your help we can reach this goal.

You Can Help Reach These Goals

Even though A Door of Hope foster families are meeting a bigger share of the need every year in Tampa Bay, the need is ongoing. Each year nearly 1,200 children are displaced and put into foster care in Tampa Bay. Not all go immediately into a foster home. Our dream is that there would be a Christian foster home for every displaced child.

There are many ways you can help us serve more foster children and stay on pace to reach 300 homes by 2023.

State funding only covers our operational costs after a child is placed in one of our homes. Everything we do prior to that from recruiting and licensing foster families to placing children in our homes is only possible because of your generous support and gifts.

Specifically, the ongoing need to provide foster care to hundreds of desperately needy children through A Door of Hope Christian foster homes can be met in the following ways.

Foster Parent Recruitment and Licensing Needs

A huge ongoing need is to raise funds to cover the cost to recruit and license each home. These costs are not and have never been covered by the state. We, of course, cannot and do not ask our families to pay for this themselves.

That’s why the help of supporters like you is absolutely necessary to cover the $3,500 cost to license each new home. The goal we believe God has given us is to open more than 80 new licensed Christian foster homes each year. Won’t you help us?

What does the $3,500 cover? Staff and material costs for:

  • Recruitment of families to attend orientation classes: Goal over 360 families per year
  • Orientation classes held primarily in churches: Goal 15-20 classes per year
  • Prescreening (intake, selection, inquiry, assessment, background screening) of all families before licensing: Goal over 200 families per year
  • Training and licensing classes primarily in churches (four separate 6 hour sessions)
  • Materials for licensing workbooks, etc.
  • Home visits and home studies of every potential licensed foster family
  • Transportation costs for staff to complete all these tasks
  • Licensure process required by the state for every family after all classes have been completed: Goal over 80 licensed families per year

Placement of Children in A Door of Hope Homes

Another huge ongoing need is to raise funds to cover the cost of placing each needy child with a loving A Door of Hope family. These costs are not and have never been covered by the state. We, of course, cannot and do not ask our families to pay for this themselves.

That’s why the help of supporters like you is absolutely necessary to cover the $500 cost to place each child. The goal we believe God has given us is to place more than 500 newly displaced children a year in one of A Door of Hope’s licensed Christian foster homes. Won’t you help us?

What does the $500 cover? Staff and material costs for our licensing specialists to work with our licensed foster families:

  • Making preliminary calls and visits with each foster family seeking child placement
  • Assisting in communicating with the state regarding each specific foster family’s requests in terms of availability, age, and gender of child placement being sought
  • Involvement in the placement process
  • Following up with and caring for each family after each child is placed
  • Assisting foster parents with specific needs such as: cribs, beds, diapers, clothing, daycare, etc.
  • Transportation costs for staff to complete all these tasks
