It Takes The Church

It Takes The Church

The foster care system is broken.

Right now, in Tampa Bay alone, there are more foster children than there are foster homes.  These children, who were removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect, or abandonment have little to no hope.  They end up cramming into already-full foster homes.  They end up sleeping in office spaces.  They end up staying up overnight waiting for a bed to open up.  They end up bouncing around from house to house to house every night with nothing but their belongings hastily packed up in a trash bag from when they were originally removed from their home.

We know from studies that these arduous situations leave lasting effects in these children’s lives as they grow up and age out of the foster care system, such as PTSD, drug addictions, and even human trafficking.

Jesus has called upon us to come together to make real, lasting change for foster children in our communities.  The scriptures say,

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. – James 1:27

These foster children can be considered the “modern-day orphan,” and they are in need of a safe place, a warm meal, a soft bed, and foster parents who can demonstrate the love of Jesus in a real and tangible way in these moments of crisis.

How We Can Solve the Problem

Did you know that if only one family from every church in the Tampa Bay Area opened their home to a child in crisis, that we could completely eradicate the need to license more homes?  Furthermore, every single foster home would be a place of hope that is intentional with the gospel-driven love of Jesus Christ.  Can you imagine?

This is why A Door of Hope is trying to license and support at least 300 Christian-based foster homes by the year 2023.  And we are more than halfway to our goal!

At A Door of Hope, we understand both the joy and hardships that fostering can bring. We cannot promise that it will be an easy task to foster a child that is not your own, but we can promise that we will be there to pray for you, to offer genuine encouragement and helpful guidance along the way. We truly believe in creating loving environments where these children can not only feel loved but where they can thrive and begin anew through Christ.

It Takes The Church…

We understand that not every family is fit to foster, and that’s ok! There are plenty of ways you can support these children who so desperately need a safe home in real, meaningful ways that make a true and lasting difference.

Some small ways to make a big difference include:

  • Volunteering your time on our Office Support Team
  • Offering childcare services to foster families completing their training during classes
  • By blessing a foster family with a home-cooked meal to their door!
  • Mentoring a child so that they are given an opportunity to experience a healthy relationship with a stable, caring adult

What We Need Immediately…

The most tangible way that you can help, right now, is to help us financially.  Did you know it takes A Door of Hope about $3,500 to raise up a single foster home?  Here are some ways that you can help us raise the needed support.

  • Become a financial partner by donating a minimum of $35/month (that’s less than $2 a day!)  Click the “Donate” button below to sign up!
  • Send a one-time donation by clicking here

It takes us, the Church, to make a difference for these children. Your generous donations help us place children in homes and license families all over the Tampa Bay Area!
