From Tragedy to Purpose: Sarah’s Inspiring Journey.
When a head-on collision with a semi-truck left Sarah lifeless on the highway, her story could have ended in tragedy. Pronounced dead on impact in 2008, she was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, her body shattered, her survival uncertain. The news reached her parents with chilling finality: “Your daughter has been in a terrible accident and is unlikely to survive.”
As they arrived at the hospital, a priest was leaving her room. Her father collapsed to the floor, fearing the worst.
But God had other plans.
Through years of grueling recovery, critical surgery, multiple fractures, and the loss of two inches of bone in her leg, Sarah fought her way back—not just to survive, but to step into a calling greater than herself. Her journey of brokenness became a journey of purpose.
One day in church, Sarah felt a tug on her heart she couldn’t ignore: foster care. At first, fear crept in. What if I get too attached? she wondered. But then came a simple, life-changing realization:
“Everyone deserves to feel loved.”
That conviction led her to A Door of Hope, where she became a single foster mom, offering children in crisis the same gift she had been given—a second chance at life.
Sarah knows what it means to be broken. But she also knows what it means to heal. And now, she’s using her story to help rewrite the stories of children who have endured their own trauma
At A Door of Hope, we are honored to walk alongside incredible foster parents like Sarah—single moms, single dads, and families who open their hearts and homes so that children can heal and flourish.
This isn’t just Sarah’s story. It’s a call to action. Could you be the safe place a child is waiting for?
